When our kids were super young we didn’t have a ton of extra money… and being a photographer myself I always figured we would just save some money and set up a tripod for our photos. Fast forward to the last three or four years and I’ve paid someone else to take them… why? Because I want those moments and memories documented forever. Yes, I can set up a tripod just fine, but the real moments aren’t captured in a stand still, smile for the camera photo. The real moments are captured in movement and doing life together. Laughing at a joke my ten year old said or playing tag in a field. And while I will always enjoy a good smiling photo I cherish the memories of the action ones.
In the thick of my kids being little I thought I’d never make it out… now, my kids are 8 and 10 and I have no idea how we got here. Their voices have changed, they’ve grown, they are more independent and aren’t quite so “little” anymore. Time waits for no man. It doesn’t wait for when you’ve lost the weight, or for your favorite season, it doesn’t wait for when the braces are off or any other excuse you may give… time literally keeps going. Your kids keep growing and changing. Do not sit on documenting these memories!! You will never regret a session but I guarantee you’ll regret all the sessions missed.
